Licence renewal reminders now come by SMS and email

The Roads Authority no longer posts renewal notices. Make sure NaTIS has your phone number and email.

The short answer: Since 12 May 2025 the Roads Authority no longer posts licence disc or driving licence renewal notices. Reminders now come by SMS and email. Make sure NaTIS has your current cellphone number and email, or renew online at www.ra.org.na.

The Roads Authority (RA) has stopped sending vehicle licence disc and driving licence renewal notices by post. Reminders now go out by SMS and email instead.

If your cellphone number or email at NaTIS is old or missing, you may not get a reminder at all. The RA asks motorists to visit their nearest NaTIS office, with ID, to update their contact details.

If you already renew online through the RA's Online Licence Renewal platform, your details are on the system and you do not need to visit a NaTIS office. New users can register on www.ra.org.na.

Just bought a car? Once it is in your name at NaTIS, check that your own contact details are on it, so the licence disc reminder reaches you. Our guide Sorting the paperwork covers getting the car into your name.

Frequently asked questions

Why didn't I get my licence renewal notice in the post?

The Roads Authority stopped sending renewal notices by post (NamPost) on 12 May 2025. Notices for licence discs and driving licences now go out by SMS and email.

How do I update my cellphone number and email at NaTIS?

Go to your nearest NaTIS office with your ID and ask them to update your contact details. Companies, ministries and state-owned enterprises can email natishelpdesk@ra.org.na.

Can I renew my vehicle licence online in Namibia?

Yes. Owners of Namibian-registered vehicles can renew and pay through the Roads Authority's Online Licence Renewal platform. Register at www.ra.org.na.

How do I get my licence disc if I renew online?

The disc is printed at NaTIS and sent by NamPost to the home or work address you give. When the service started in 2022, the Roads Authority said delivery took about five days, so renew before your disc expires.

Can I drive while my licence disc is expired?

No. The Roads Authority says a vehicle may not be driven on a public road with an expired licence disc.
